Blogger Vs WordPress

One of the most important factors in being able to monetize your blog to its potential is to purchase your own domain name, and install the (free) WordPress software onto it.

Many of you may already know that you can set up a blog via Blogger.com and other similar websites. Even WordPress offer free blogging accounts ending in “.wordpress.com” which are similar to what Blogger.com offers, but I am talking about something totally different. I am taking about getting your own domain and uploading the (free) WordPress software onto it. The reason this is so important is that when using things like Blogger or other similar services, you are limited to what kind of advertising you can put on your site, and also the design too. With your own domain, you can have any kind of advertising you want on it as it’s your own site, and you can also get a completely original design for it, that looks different to any other website. Also, you don’t have to have the word blogger or WordPress in your domain name, which looks so much more professional, and also means it’s shorter for people to remember. You are also in control of your own site. If for instance Blogger.com decided to shut your blog down there is not much you could do about it, but with your own site you are the one in charge.

Now don’t get me wrong, the free blog profiles are free and easy to set up, but investing as little as $15 per annum into registering your own domain name is well worth it. Trust me, if you plan on actually making enough money to travel, then you need you need to forget about services like Blogger, and get your own website with WordPress software installed onto it. That’s not to say services like Blogger aren’t useful to some people. They are fine as just a hobby blog, or a way to express yourself, but for anyone interested in making money from their blog (in our case, making enough money to travel), then WordPress always wins hands down.
